Reducing Abortions From 1 Mill to .5 Mill Is Prolife?

I remember being told years ago that Bill Clinton was Pro-Life. The arguments were clever. It would be argued that his policies would reduce abortions. The idea was that giving women real help and other Left-wing ideas (birth-control, condoms, financial help) would mean that women would choose life. Then the statistics would be used that the number of abortions were actually reduced.

Today, CitizenLink and others are reporting Obama is Pro-life as well. How can this possibly be. Just read here and see the same exact tactics that Clinton used. There truly is nothing new with Obama.

We can drastically reduce abortions by helping reduce unplanned pregnancies and supporting pregnant women and families that need help.

Senator Barack Obama will fight to make sure that every woman in America has the support she needs when facing an unplanned pregnancy. Senator Obama's grass-roots, faith-based approach of support for women and families will help them when they most need it, preventing abortions by supporting women and families to choose life.

I suppose if one equivocates reducing abortions as being Pro-life Obama is your man. However, calling a pile of dog doo doo a rose doesn't change what that stuff is on my shoe after I stepped on Obama's website.

Being Prolife is really simple. First we acknowledge that God is the Creator of human beings. Only God has the right to take a life as He sees fit. Only God has the right to demand from governments how and when a man is to be put to death if such a need arises.

Being Pro-life also recognizes that abortion is murder. Is Obama willing to call abortion what it is? If abortion is murder, then the governments of the world must recognize what the Creator demands of them. Murder is to be stopped. Murderers are to be punished. Is Obama truly Pro-life now?

Obama has stood for infanticide. Even factcheck.org has to admit that Obama stood against legislation in Illinois that would protect aborted infants that are born alive. This is not Pro-life. Call it what you may, Obama is a champion of the industry that murders (over 40 million!) the weakest and most needy of our protection. Obama stands with murderers.

May God have mercy on his soul.

I'm curious about where we go from here, though. Name a candidate who will be able to do anything more than simply reduce abortions. Even if, by the Grace of God, abortion is outlawed, it won't stop, will it?

Now, there is a marked difference in the candidates in that one supports elective, late-term, and partial birth abortions, or at least doesn't vote against them (and therefore ends up appearing to support them).

Anyhow, our current President, who is "Pro-Life", has not eliminated abortions, merely reduced the number of such. So is he not Pro-Life? Is McCain not Pro-Life? Palin? Huckabee? Anyone?

I guess I don't follow this argument, even though I'm sure I agree with you in theory.

Howdy Barrett,

Good to hear from you.

Our political system is set up in such a way in that if laws like this are going to be changed it will take time. Slavery did not end over night, but the system was set up such that it could and would be ended.

Leftists hate our political system. They seek to overthrow it directly and bypass the system. That is why abortion became legal in the first place. It should never have happened.

Being a Prolife President in my opinion is one who is going to lead a movement. He is one who will articulate the beliefs before the American people. He is one who seeks to use the political system to advance the cause of the defenseless. It may take time, but it must start somewhere. This is foundational to maintaining a government that will be blessed by God's Providence.

"Even if, by the Grace of God, abortion is outlawed, it won't stop, will it?"

The end result is completely irrelevant. It doesn't matter if abortion ends or not in reality. Think of murder in the typical sense. Every day, a woman is raped and murdered. Simply because it still happens doesn't mean we should abandon pursuing laws to stop it.

In conclusion, my post was simply arguing who is Prolife to start with. Is someone who says he is for reducing abortions yet doesn't really believe fetuses are fully human, who deserve the fullest protection of the law, really Prolife? On what basis is Obama Prolife? He never says?

To be honest, I don't know if McCain is Prolife. If he is, for someone who has seen to wickedness of war, for someone who has survived torture and imprisonment, he certainly should be a much stronger man than he is. If McCain is truly Prolife (someone who truly believes what I think it means), he is the biggest coward I have ever seen.

Thanks for the clarification. I was certain I agreed with you; my dense mind just needed clarification.

I really don't know what to think of McCain. The Conservative Right now calls him "the lesser of two evils." My father says, "I will hold my nose and vote for him." This sentiment seems due in large part to their opinion of him before it was apparent he'd be the candidate.

During the primary season, The AFA and others put out a voting guide saying that he wasn't Pro-Life, not in the least. Now, all of a sudden, he's is magically Pro-Life enough. At least Pro-Life enough for Christians to be guilted into voting for him.

I just don't get it. I really don't.

What really needs to happen (foundationally speaking) is that someone who believes that the Constitution ought to be law of the Land, should be the Republican nominee. McCain clearly does not. He is willing to overthrow it for his own personal political gain.

For instance, the McCain/Feingold Act is disgusting. In order to get money out of politics, he is willing to make himself look good at the cost of the First Amendment.

A man of this poor character should not be considered for office. Now he has endorsed and voted for a Bail out Law that gives a huge amount of power to a bureaucrat. This new current law should be recognized for its violations against the Constitution. But as the track record shows, McCain has no respect for the Constitution when it suits his political ends.

War hero or not, he is a foolish man.

BTW: I did comment about McCain as well.

Thanks, Howie. I really appreciate the article by Chuck Baldwin that was referenced in your post about McCain. Maybe I should be a member of the Constitution Party?

Believe me when I say I have been tempted to do so. However, they are of the position that leads to isolationism. We have already fought 2 world wars due to this poor viewpoint. I wrote about this problem here.
