Tacking On the Gospel

The White Horse Inn had an interesting discussion on the nature of the Gospel in the church. They very much dealt with the issue of preaching and how shallow and Christless preaching is while pretending to speak of Christ. What was interesting is their point on how the words of orthodoxy are used. Words like Jesus, salvation, eternal life, justification, sanctification and even the Bible Alone take on radically new meanings.

This 5 minute clip of the program (listen here) from the first week of January catches the essence of the program. The part where Mike Horton speaks of preaching entire messages and then tacking on Christ or an Altar call at the end is predominant in today's churches. I know I have been guilty of this as well. May God forgive us and grant us repentance from such a shallow view of the Gospel.
