Get a Massage

With the rise of Campoloism and Osteenism and other Emergent churchisms, Evanjellyism is becoming a feel good religion. The Gospel has become a twelve step help guide to all our ailments. "God loves you anyway" so let's try to help ourselves feel good about ourselves.

I came across this make-believe commercial, which really isn't all that make-believe. So head down to your local "Jesus and Me" book store and pick up a copy of the "Massage" and start feeling better.

I can't help but wonder sometimes...considering the fact that we seem to constantly debate the same issues, if the emergant church hasn't always been around (if you can even truly point to the emergent church). It's just like saying post modernism is a new thing - when it's really not. If you look at the values of the "post-modern" generation (authenticity being one of them) I don't think you'd have people from other generations saying they didn't value the same things. Who doesn't value authenticity?
I think it is safe to say we can point to movements and people in any age that were religious just to make themselves feel better - the rich young ruler comes to mind for example.
I hate to be the guy that tries to make sense of it all on a cosmic scale (mostly because I'll probably look like an idiot) but it seems to me that this exists in every age of the church so God's people will learn to get up off their butts and soulfully but intelligently defend THE FAITH.

Cory, I couldn't agree more. McLaren's writings has been described as the Emperor in his new clothes, or lack thereof.

Which is exactly why the church needs to continue in the foolishness of preaching. Yet, every generation seems to face new enemies while thinking they are new. In reality, they are just old ones.

So we don't need to become like them to get them to understand us. Instead, stand firm as the Apsotle Paul speaking by the Spirit commanded.

God Bless
