More Evidence Campolo Is Outside of Orthodox Christianity
A friend of mine just sent me a link to a Blog of Tony Campolo quotes. I just have to sit here and wonder why American Baptists are not able to excommunicate heretics? This is what theological liberalism does. It makes Christians into theological wimps.
As I understand polity, denominations have no business excommunicating anyone. That is the domain of the local church. However, local churches can and should disassociate from churches that have left the Gospel! We shouldn't have a problem looking at the teaching and practice of another church and discerning whether it is in the faith or not. And if it's not, then we can and should disassociate from it. Whether our church has to leave the denomination or the denomination forces out the heretical church, we should cut ties.
Sorry, I was unclear. When I said American Baptists are unable to excommunicate, I was simply referring to us in a general sense. I don't think in my invlovement within the denomination for ten years that I have ever heard of a pastor that has been excommunicated by any local church. There have obviously been times there should have been. Campolo being one.

Campolo has been a wingnut for a long time.... :)
