Reagan Was Right Then and Still Right Now...Mostly

As we all know, ObamaCare has nothing to do with the image that is projected by the Left-wing radicals (Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the Democrat party) and its accomplice, the Left-wing Media. It has everything to do with government power over the people and the abandonment of liberty.

Ronald Reagan spoke about this issue many years ago. It seems freedom and liberty must continually fight for its existence. For it was no less true of his day as it is in ours. Only now, these Leftist-radical are fully in power.

I must confess that we have arrived at this day of ObamaCare due to the negligence of Conservatives. We have sent our children off to schools to be educated by Lefty-wing (liberal) elitists. We have allowed almost every institution to be swallowed up by secular-humanism and modern liberalism. In the end, it is our own fault. Perhaps the Creator would be gracious and remind Americans of our history and stir within our hearts to once again abandon our narcissism and return to the legacy our Founder's gave to us. We inherited a great nation. Perhaps a new Ronald Reagan would stand up and defend freedom and liberty and lead a nation back to the principles that made it "the last stand on earth".

  • But at the moment I'd like to talk about another way because this threat is with us and at the moment is more imminent. One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It's very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. . . . Now, the American people, if you put it to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose, would unhesitatingly vote against it. We have an example of this. Under the Truman administration it was proposed that we have a compulsory health insurance program for all people in the United States, and, of course, the American people unhesitatingly rejected this.

  • The doctor begins to lose freedom. . . . First you decide that the doctor can have so many patients. They are equally divided among the various doctors by the government. But then doctors aren’t equally divided geographically. So a doctor decides he wants to practice in one town and the government has to say to him, you can't live in that town. They already have enough doctors. You have to go someplace else. And from here it's only a short step to dictating where he will go. . . . All of us can see what happens once you establish the precedent that the government can determine a man's working place and his working methods, determine his employment. From here it's a short step to all the rest of socialism, to determining his pay. And pretty soon your son won't decide, when he's in school, where he will go or what he will do for a living. He will wait for the government to tell him where he will go to work and what he will do.

On the flip side, I do not believe that Reagan was fully correct. There is one last nation that men may seek. This nation, however, is unique among nations. For it has no borders, or particular race. It has no earthly government ruler. It offers true freedom and joy no matter what circumstances may arise. When evil men arise, this nation is supernaturally protected and preserved, even when death arrives among its citizens. It will reign supreme in the age to come, in the new heavens and new earth. Its citizens possess eternal life even while suffering in this world.

Jesus Christ is the true King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

"It's like telling a lie... one leads to another..." Yes, Mr. Reagan. All of the fear-mongering really, really is.

Also, suggesting people shouldn't go to college is laughably ignorant if it wasn't so damned terrifying. Because a conservative couldn't go be educated and stay conservative-- the brainwashing camp that is a large arena of the exchange of ideas... OH THE HORROR!!

Exchange of ideas? Where does that take place? Is that the school that Ann Coulter went to speak about conservatism?

"Also, suggesting people shouldn't go to college is laughably ignorant if it wasn't so damned terrifying."

What are you talking about? What is terrifying is that people like yourself just assume your worldview is true. No justification whatsoever. You don't see the encroachment against liberty because you agree with what Liberals do.

I have no doubt that at the time of the Revolution you would have been on the side that said the Patriots were just a bunch of fear-mongering fanatics. The King wasn't taking away our liberties..no no no. The irony is that the list of grievances in the Declaration pales in comparison to what this Obamacare will lead to, along with all of the "hate speech rhetoric" running in the media. Funny thing though, hate speech is only defined by the one side. Anything you disagree with.

Actually, in that Canadian school a very clear exchange of ideas happened-- Ann Coulter came ready to hate and be hated and got what she wanted.

Perhaps my meaning is misunderstood when it comes to my phrasing of your belief people shouldn't go to college. You say we shouldn't have "sent our children to be educated". Now, there are plenty of people who have no need for college. Great and necessary jobs that do not require any greater amount of academia than grade school and a GED. And that is valid. But I don't get the right's new charge on this. Like the lovely Fox News segment from earlier this year where we are warned what week-minded eighteen year old conservatives may become if we allow them out of the hive mind:
http://blog.seattlepi.com/hottopics/archives/194770.asp

Hate speech can come from any number of places. Those who assume every member of a state is worthless come to mind. There are plenty of hateful liberals. I will say that many hateful liberals avoid being labeled for what they are because they have a far better grasp of sarcasm and satire than their counterparts on the right. Doesn't make it okay.

Living in any society is a discussion of the loss of rights. Just as easily as you can accuse me of taking up the side of the British in colonial times, I could accuse you of raising up Dixie and burning Kansans alive for wanting their state disallow slavery during the Civil War. "But we're fighting for states' rights!"

I never said any such thing. I was not even referring to simply colleges and universities. I meant education as a whole. So your premise is wrong in that universities are merely a place to exchange of ideas. Education is about producing citizens as well as the other facets as you may agree with.

Albert Mohler has a good article on the subject. http://www.albertmohler.com/2008/07/07/just-what-are-schools-to-do-the-aims-and-purposes-of-education/

Also, I do not believe conservative kids go to college as conservatives. simply because kids come from parents that are conservative does not mean the kids are. Ken Hams new video "Already Gone" documents this as well. In fact, theologically conservative churches have been doing study after study showing that we are not raising theological conservatives at all. I am certain the corresponding cultural conservatism would be a similar problem.

Just as easily as you can accuse me of taking up the side of the British in colonial times

I believe you missed my point. I am certain I was clear as mud. Saying anything bad about Obama's beliefs seems to be taken by you as "You guys are just being hateful and extreme." The fact is, I was also against McCain and Bush when they legislated the McCain/Feingold mess. I believe I am being consistent here.

Obama has gone much further than any Republican. Obama has said that he desires the overthrow of the Constitution. He just doesn't say it in such plain and clear words. He also surrounds himself with anti-American Leftists. And if someone such as myself points that out, we are extremists in your eyes.

I say open your eyes. Obama has laid the foundation to take over 1/6 of the American economy by the Federal Government. That by definition is a massive loss of liberty. The Federal Government will soon be in charge of a massive private industry or what once was a private industry (regulated as it may be).

You may see this as wonderful. Words have meaning. Liberty by definition is lost if this is allowed to really happen. Leftists say as much. So I am not certain why you would rush to Obama's defense.

Ann Coulter came ready to hate and be hated and got what she wanted.

I am curious. What about her do you see as hateful? I know she disagrees with you therefore she is hateful, but I am looking for a substantial reason.

As far as I am concerned, I agree with you that colleges should not be a place where every radical idea gets to contemplated as an equally good idea. Yet I am on the other side from you. I reject the idea of inviting leaders from Iran to speak in our colleges.

To be honest, I have grown up listening to teachers tell me how we are running out of oil and gas because we Americans are a bunch of hogs, therefore Leftists should be allowed to rid America of liberty. I am tired of being told how we are evil and the cause of such misery in the world. It is all pure nonsense. The same people that want to restrict liberty and freedom through Cap and Trade are the same people that feel guilty for our so-called evils and seek to legislate their (im)morality.

The fact that Ann Coulter points these things out only makes her the hate speech poster-child.

I really disagree with the articles and commentary on education. Maybe I'm nuts, but I'd really like to have kids able to read, write, and do math. This is important to me-- and I think to the children no matter what their eventual lot in life may be, or what their parents may think. History becomes a gray area-- because history is not scientific. It's debatable. And I don't think anyone should raise their children as to be either conservative or liberal for that matter.

Liberty: the right to act according to your free will. Living in any society structure-- family, government, whatever-- we sacrifice liberty. Now, I can't hold you to the standard of "typical conservative" any more fairly than you can hold me to "typical liberal". But the topic of your post was "Reagan was right (mostly)". I think about Ronald Reagan, president of the Screen Actors Guild who handed over a list of people he didn't like as suspected communists. I think about Ronald Reagan who wouldn't fund or even DISCUSS AIDS research. I think about Ronald Reagan who for the majority of his political career opposed some of the most important Civil Rights acts in our nation's history. And I think about Ronald Reagan whose name is synonymous with the HIGHLY invasive "War on Drugs". Conservatives are for liberty everywhere but my body, my bedroom, and my mind. Which, as far as I'm concerned, are FAR more important than my money. Arguing against requiring kids to be insured medically doesn't get much ground with me. Or arguing against green efforts. "We musn't make the air cleaner, create less waste, and generally make the planet more habitable-- we must consume everything in front of us, because global warming is a hoax!" Just doesn't get anywhere with me.

I think Ann Coulter is pretty clearly hateful. That's not too big a step to take. I mean, read her blog commentary about this recent Canadian kur-muffin. You and I don't like each other, but we haven't directly called each other "asshole"-- something Coulter lets out in the first couple paragraphs. She is a half step away from Team Phelps in her rather constant rage.

Where did the article say otherwise? Everybody knows that reading, writing and math are not done in a vacuum. The whole point of the modern public education system was started not because of these things. In fact, I home school my children because I believe the standards of these things are not high enough.

Would you like to know the number 1 reason the public educators tell me why home schooling is wrong? I'll give you a hint. It has absolutely nothing to do with reading, writing and math.

You and I don't like each other

Would I really not like you? One of the best friends I ever had was someone that totally disagreed with me on virtually everything.

You mentioned that Reagan opposed certain civil rights acts. Perhaps we may agree on some of these things. You mentioned the war on drugs. That is an issue I am not fully convinced of. We may actually agree at many points.

I bet we probably agree that the draft violates the very principles of our nation. You might be surprised on where we agree.

:-)

BTW: I have read Coulter's article. You must understand that I grew up the Boston area. Boston is extremely cynical and sarcasm drips throughout the average person's conversations. So when I read her article, I simply saw it for the humor that any Bostonian would have been accustomed to.

Perhaps that is wrong from your perspective. What is striking is that the main thesis of her entire post seems to have been overlooked by much of the media. But I am certain you would not have missed it.
