I was catching up on my White Horse Inn mp3s while driving today. They again played a clip of a question asked at a national pastors conference. The question being, "Does Adam’s sin become imputed to us?"
The errors of Rome on the doctrine of original sin pale in comparison to the beliefs of many so-called pastors today. At least Rome seems to understand the issues involved. Most pastors are so clueless it is difficult for me to believe Evanjellyism will be able to exist as orthodox for another decade or two.
The last person questioned was simply caught in his inconsistent beliefs. He did not believe it was right for God to impute Adam's sin to us, thereby punishing us for his disobedience. So the questioner asked that if Adam's sin cannot be imputed to all men, then how could our sin be imputed to Christ? In other words, how can Christ be punished for the sins of anyone?
Romans 5 is clear. Without the doctrine of Original Sin, there is no redemption in Christ. It seems to me that many pastors are simply not pastors but false teachers in sheep’s clothing.

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ?" - from Romans chapter 5
Hard to neglect this passage concerning original sin, but I guess some people do. When those people are pastors, it only encourages more to do the same, effectively developing an a la carte approach to the Bible. Quite honestly, I don't see a lot of difference between such people quoting the Bible and Deepak Chopra quoting the Bible. Just pick and choose the verses that suit your fancy and preconceived pscyho/political/moral/spiritual beliefs, and ignore the rest (5% or 95%).
"if adam's sin cannot be imputed to us then how can our sin be imputed to Christ?'
Come on! The answer is obvious isn't it - it's not imputed to Christ - What Christ did was not definitive - it only created the possibility of redemption. Sin doesn't have to be imputed to Christ if WE DECIDE OF OUR OWN FREE WILL TO CHANGE AND FOLLOW GOD.
So, how was I at playing the modern arminian? Did that sound just about right - am i ready to be a pastor yet?
Sounds like you'd be popular.
:-)
Enjoyed reading here today. This is the first time I have seen your site, and I appreciate your honest approach to some of life's greatest questions.
Certainly there is original sin. Why else did Jesus die? God Himself, incarnate?
